Greetings and welcome! I am Lord Geoffrey of Blesedale. I reside in the Shire of Frosted Hills in the glorious Kingdom of the East, along with my lady, the fair Emma of Akerynton. I am shown here ready for battle, armed with an ax and wearing a helm from the Maciejowski Bible (for more on the helm, go to Projects.)Please visit my pages here and learn a bit more of me. As of May 3, 2007, I am also the Chatelain for Frosted Hills, responsible for welcoming new members and helping them get started in the SCA.
This is M'Lady, Emma of Akerynton, aka Emma Ironfist. She is posing with our arbalest, Ravenclaw. An arbalest is a type of siege engine that shoots large arrows. Emma is developing a reputation for deadly aim. To learn more about Ravenclaw, click the link above. UPDATE: We have sold Ravenclaw to another SCA couple. We just have not had the time to fully enjoy playing with this large toy, and we needed the space it occupied.
I am Geoffrey, son of Richard. I hail from Blesedale, England, a small village in Lancashire on the edge of the Forest Bowland. I was born in 1267 and am married to M'Lady, Emma of Akerynton. Together we travel our kingdom in times of peace and serve our king in times of war. Blesedale is in a poor region. The local baron rose up against Duke William after his Conquest a couple hunderd years ago and William retaliated by laying waste to the land. The area has never recovered...
For more on my garb seen above, go to the Projects page.
And this is Emma, showing off her new dress, a bliaut, at Great North Eastern War, July 2006. It was hot and humid, which is not good weather for silk dress she did have on! To the merchants I went and picked this out for her. A linen/ cotton blend, it is much cooler.
What is the Society for Creative Anachronism? We are an international group that is devoted to researching and recreating aspects of life in western Europe from 500 AD to 1600 AD. More can be learned by following the endless links that begin at the SCA's main home page.
In the real world, I am Jeffrey Blaisdell. My parents are from Maine, where my father's ancestors were shipwrecked in 1635. They sailed from Bleasdale, England, where my lineage can be traced to the late 1400s. Bleasdale itself dates to at least 1228. When I chose a name for the SCA, using my own name but in the old spelling seemed perfect! I am 40 (as of 2007) and make my home with my wife, Sherry, in the Hudson Valley of New York, along with our two cats, Oscar and Emmy. I am also a Travelling Man.
